Enid Mary Blyton (1897-1968), also known as Mary Pollock, is one of the most famous children's authors of the 20th century. She is particularly well known forher numerous series of books such as Noddy, The Famous Five and The Secret Seven. Blyton wrote hundreds of other books for young and older children an estimate putting her total book publication at around 800 titles. She was born in East Dulwich in London. She married twice and had two daughters by her first husband. She was a talented pianist and was a teacher for five years before turning her hobby of writing into her profession. After the death of her second husband in 1967 she became increasingly ill and suffering with Alzheimer's Disease she moved into a Nursing Home and died a few months later aged 71. |
